Inter-weaved Performance

DORAI RAJ S N

A message that matters - * Courage is an inner principle, a spirit and invaluable strength that helps plan, act and find our way for the possible tomorrows, the future epoch and professional frontiers of our lives.

Title of article: Inter-weaving Performance, by a parent

Come board examinations, final exams, professional course exams, the fear on most minds is as to whether one’s preparations are good enough.

Today due to deteriorating relationships with hazardous habits emerging, students are often drawn to poor preparation schedules or inadequate learning of their complete curriculums.

To help our educational systems steer students through this crisis, we need to inter-weave performance into invaluable curriculum learning and scheduling of preparations.

To do this, we must encourage educational institutions to identify “Open House Events” during the academic year, where forms are circulated earlier to help guardians or parents and students (themselves) identify their targets and expectation to perform in important (upcoming) examinations.

The “Open House Events” could result in guardians or parents and students attending these programmes together, where the agenda is to know via completed forms, the target group into which the students would like to be placed.

As peer pressure or impressions do matter, the need is to get students to fill the form at the event and hand this back to ensure selective discussion and minimal sharing.

The target groups could be what we recognize today as “Expect to pass”, “Expect to score”, “Expect to score well”, “Expect to excel” where shifting within or across target groups can be permitted depending upon the time available before the examination. The setting of target groups should ease the pressure faced by students who have no say actually when it comes to deciding of curriculums or the examination schedules.

On selecting a target group, the students belonging to that group can be put through a 360 degree coverage, where work is outlined for the faculty, mentors and the students via a model that is instrumented for a student rather than being a common expectation. The 360 degree coverage can then decide the number of acclimatization examinations that the student can take up (in addition to today’s preparatory examinations), making today’s objectivity in appearing for examinations have more containment of purpose.

Today educational institutions have 2 preparatory examinations before the board exams, these do make a difference but instrumental examinations can be scheduled using sample question papers, learning guides or specific for examination handbooks that are available in the public domain (if the institution does not have resources to prepare them independently)

These instrumental examinations can help a student if he or she or otherwise has a problem in selective subjects or subject groups (like Science, Social Studies, PCM, PCB, CBE, CBZ, other curriculum specific subject groups etc).

These instrumental examinations could help a student prepare, appear and objectively improve for a subject or subject group. Drawing a baseline that is easy for all students belonging to specific target groups (identified earlier) is the need of the hour.

The proactiveness of the educational boards, educational institutions and empowered faculties can make this baseline possible, so students meet the baseline expectation anyway depending upon their target setting earlier.

Sufficient instrumental assessments or acclimatization examinations before the exams could ensure the negativity of performance does not lead to loss of life, limb or expectancy to step further.

The common zero level influencers for any student being

(a) Ability

(b) Liability / Stress / Weaknesses / Behavioral problems

(c) Emotional Quotient and next the Intelligence Quotient (also termed as the Intellectual Quotient)

The 3 influencers are factors that have a different sense of proportionality for each of us. It is for each of us to think about or at these zero levels to toughen or improve our skills to perform.

The sense of proportionality mentioned includes elements of

1. Planning abilities

2. Recognition or reflectivity to understand the target

3. Objectivity and resilience to work towards this target

4. Inclination, responsibility or obligation to work for this target

5. Endurance beyond normal extents (with realistic approaches) to deal with liability, stress, weaknesses and/or behavioral problems to meet or achieve the target.

In this context, Arise, Awake and Stop not till goal is reached is an apt statement by Swami Vivekananda.
